Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker has revealed that the squad is determined to avoid the mistakes of last season and cement its place in the Champions League next term.Spurs won just four of their last 13 Premier League matches to allow rival Arsenal to leapfrog them into third place, with Chelsea's surprise success in the elite European competition ensuring that Spurs' fourth-place finish was only good enough for the Europa League.
That run of form is thought to have contributed to Harry Redknapp's dismissal at the end of the season and, speaking to reporters after Tottenham's 0-0 draw at relegation-threatened QPR, Parker revealed the squad will use the memory of last term to avoid a repeat performance under Andre Villas-Boas.
"Maybe what will happen in the past will stand us in good stead," the 32-year-old said.
"That is in everyone’s minds because it’s happened before. I just think we can learn as a squad from missing out and stay strong."
The former West Ham midfielder had nothing but praise for ex-boss Redknapp, who is now trying to keep bottom-of-the-table QPR in the Premier League.
"I think the world of Harry. He can have as big an impact as anyone," continued Parker.
"QPR were very resilient, they stuck to a game-plan which they had worked on. They went to Stamford Bridge and won, they got a point from a very good team and they’ve got a result against us.
"With Harry in there, and the way he is, he’s probably going to turn things around and there’s a chance for them."
