Colorado Rapids 2-0 New York Red Bulls: Deshorn Brown leads rookies with five goals

The Colorado Rapids took a 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls on Thursday.

A few minutes after halftime, the Red Bulls failed to clear a Rapids corner. Edson Buddle snapped a one-time shot that bounced off teammate Nathan Sturgis. The ball fell to Drew Moor, who took another quick shot on goal. Markus Holgersson cleared off the line. On the third attempt, Sturgis finally managed to find netting.

Twenty minutes later, the host doubled the lead. Chris Klute stripped the ball at the top of the opposition box and drilled a low ball across the goalmouth. Deshorn Brown turned it in at the far post. The 22-year-old leads MLS rookies this year with five goals.

The Red Bulls, despite losing three of the past four MLS matches, stay second in the East.
